This wedding, this place, these people hold a deep and special place in my heart. I was honored to capture a glimpse of the magic.
Great Barrier Island holds a community of people who are just that, a community. They work together, eat meals together, watch one another’s children, and they love one another. Distractions are minimal, reception is nearly non existent, and there is no grocery store. Their world is navigated by nature; the tides, daylight, the weather, fish.
Tom and Zoe are a beloved family in Arthur’s Bay, where you have to hop over the rocks to get anywhere when the tide is high. Together, they have twins name Hunter and Zara who are the most gutsy and adventurous two year olds you’ll ever meet.
The wedding started the day before with a fresh seafood feast caught by the boys. Everyone trekked (and sweated) up to the ceremony, about 45 minutes up. Turns out the bush is the best place to get ready for a wedding. The ceremony was so special and fun at the most beautiful lookout, married by a best friend, then, of course, more food and bevies at sunset, dancing the night away.
It was such a GIFT to be a part of this incredible day, celebrating people I love on my favorite island. Amazing watching the community come together to make this day so special. Congrats Tom & Zoe!
P.S. I had the privilege of working with my friend, Jordan Reid on this wedding. She shot the beautiful photos.
